750 Splashing Dogs in Sasha’s Shelter in Serbia

Harmony Fund NEWS

For the 750 rescued dogs at Sasha Pesic's free-running dog sanctuary in Serbia, second place is a wonderful thing. Though they don't have their ultimate prize of an adoptive family, they do have ample food, beds of straw and protection-from-violence. And as the summer heat arrives, sunny new pools are bringing so much delight.

The dogs stick their faces in and stomp their paws. Many race around and chase each other. Others like to just sit in the water and relax. Every one of these dogs came from a life where they were either abandoned, beaten, starving or left badly injured on the side of the road. Now they actually have the physical and emotional space to play.

Of course, as with water, the dogs also need food and we’re serving up a whopping 22,500 meals here each month. Just imagine that! This shelter was on the brink of closing 8 years ago and Sasha was utterly desperate when we first began lending aid. But thanks to all of YOU, this haven remains open for the dogs who need a soft place to land.

“Your HELP means everything to us,” Sasha said. “The dogs have their lives because of the help you give each month.”
